In the first part of the talk, Dr Pedro Cardoso from the Finnish Museum of Natural History explored how illicit wildlife trade is one of the biggest threats to the biological diversity of species, both animal and plant ones. He described the consequences of the trade, both for target species and species interacting with them, and finished with a characteristic example of criminal networks and current countermeasures. In the second part, Dr. Luis Reino from the Research Center in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (CIBIO-InBIO) provided a specific example of illicit trade with a focus on bird trade. He later explored the Global Trade solutions and their shortcomings.
